I am a 73 year old woman living alone. As a retired teacher since 1995, I’ve been able to maintain my independence and live in my own home.

However, in 2003, my orthopedic surgeon inadvertently severed my sciatic nerve during my 6th hip procedure. This resulted in peripheral neuropathy and a dropped foot for which I must wear a foot to knee brace. In addition to this, my long- term scoliosis condition had intensified. Much of the time I am in continuous pain in one thigh, hip, and along my entire spine.

I’m determined to continue living alone and feel I can do so with Rachael and Simply The Best Nursing Care’s help. When interviewing Rachael for being my caregiver I explained that what I needed was someone to do physically, for and with me, whatever I am incapable of doing.

Since my hip dislocates easily, Rachael readily adapts to my limitations and needs: lifting, giving leg and foot therapy, doing heavy household chores, observing and correcting my DVD exercise/stretching program performance, reaching and physical chores I no longer can handle, including carrying heavy loads up and down stairs.

Her flexibility and willingness to adjust her schedule each week have been a god send. Cheerfulness and compassion are her mainstay. Devotion, love, and understanding have been the “icing on the cake.” We’ve developed a friendship closer to mother and daughter than caregiver and patient.
